Heritage and History
Chroma Inc manufactures artist-grade acrylic paints at its facility in Lititz, Pennsylvania. The company is best known as the manufacturer of Jo Sonja's Artist Acrylics — a line of professional paints developed in collaboration with decorative painting master Jo Sonja Jansen, whose instructional books and workshops popularized a distinctive European folk-art painting tradition in North America.
The Jo Sonja line became a standard for decorative painters due to its combination of high pigment concentration, smooth flow characteristics, and consistent batch-to-batch color matching that professional instructors depend on when teaching techniques.
Made in Lititz, Pennsylvania
Chroma produces its artist acrylic paints in Lititz, Pennsylvania, formulating each color with pure, fine-quality pigments selected for velvety matte finish and rich opacity. The medium-viscosity formula delivers the characteristics associated with gouache — coverage and opacity — while maintaining the acrylic benefits of water cleanup and permanent, flexible film formation.
For decorative painters and fine artists choosing between Jo Sonja and imported European alternatives, the domestic manufacturing means responsive customer service, consistent availability, and formulas developed with the North American painting conditions and humidity ranges in mind.
