American-Made Finds
One maker's story, the brands newly listed here, and a few US-made picks, every Thursday.
KONG was founded in 1976 and makes the products listed here in Golden, CO. The site lists 13 verified American-made KONG products.
A rubber axle stop and a dog named Fritz
KONG was founded in Colorado in 1976. The company tells it this way: Joe's dog Fritz liked to chew rocks and sticks, and one day Joe tossed him a rubber axle stop while working on a VW bus. Fritz loved it, and that gave Joe the idea for the Classic KONG.
KONG built its first office and manufacturing building in Golden, Colorado. That building is still its world headquarters.
Rubber toys are US-made, others are not
KONG's FAQ says "All KONG Rubber products are made" in the U.S.A., along with a few other items, and that "Other items are made with our trusted international manufacturers." The natural rubber line, which includes the Classic, Extreme, Puppy and Ring toys, lists Country of Origin: USA and sits in KONG's Made in the USA collection. So do KONG Snacks.
The Wubba, Wubba Friends, Wubba Friends Ballistic, Wobbler and every Squeezz toy on KONG's site list Country of Origin: China. None of them is in the Made in the USA collection.
The easy rule is the material. If it is KONG's solid natural rubber, it is made in Golden. For anything else, check the country of origin on KONG's page for that toy.
