Bennett Biscuit Company began baking the first Milk-Bone dog biscuits, originally called 'Maltoid Milk-Bone' treats, in a small bakery on New York City's Lower East Side. The brand dropped 'Maltoid' from its name in 1915 and began offering biscuits in multiple sizes by 1940.
In 1957 the growing brand outgrew its original New York City plant and relocated production to Buffalo, New York, where Milk-Bone treats are still made today. The brand has continued to expand its lineup, introducing Flavor Snacks in 1962, fortifying its biscuits with vitamins and minerals in 1977, and celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008; it now operates as part of The J.M. Smucker Company.
