Human-Grade from the Pacific Northwest
Portland Pet Food Company's foundational claim — that their food meets human-grade standards — isn't marketing language. It means the ingredients are USDA-inspected, the facility is licensed for human food production, and the meats used pass the same inspection standards applied to food sold in grocery stores.
The company sources proteins from Pacific Northwest suppliers: beef, chicken, turkey, and salmon from farms and fisheries within the regional supply chain. Vegetables and grains come from similar local sources. The result is a pet food you could trace to a specific farm if you wanted to.
Portland Production
Manufacturing happens in Portland, Oregon, where the company was founded by a local entrepreneur who wanted better options for her own dog. The small-batch production model enables quality control that large manufacturers can't replicate — batches are monitored closely, and the facility is small enough that problems show up quickly and get addressed before they scale.
The pouch format — single-serving meal pouches for dogs and cats — reflects how the company thinks about freshness. Rather than a massive bag that sits open for weeks, each pouch is sealed at peak freshness and opened right before feeding.
A Mission Beyond Profit
Portland Pet Food Company donates a percentage of each purchase to local animal shelters and rescues in the Portland metro area. For a small company competing against nationally marketed brands with substantially larger marketing budgets, that commitment represents genuine values-alignment rather than corporate social responsibility theater.
For pet owners who want food made in their country from ingredients grown in their region, by a company with a traceable supply chain and a local community commitment, Portland Pet Food is the category-defining option.
