Verification in Progress

Rain-X has no products listed right now. The evidence on file doesn't reach the 70% American Score, often because a brand makes some lines in the US and imports others. Each product is scored on its own, so a US-made line can still be listed later.

Our Research Notes

Automotive glass treatment brand owned by ITW, manufactured in Houston, TX. Product listings explicitly state 'Made in the USA' and 'Made in Houston, Texas'. Core glass treatment formulas produced at the Houston facility. unverifiable: Rendered rainx.com home, about, FAQs and history (2026-10-23): no statement anywhere of where Rain-X products are made today. History mentions past Cleveland, OH manufacturing (Blue Coral-Slick 50 Division) and a Houston 'centralized organization'; ITW Global Brands at 16200 Park Row, Houston TX appears on the contact page and SDSs as supplier/distributor address, which is an office, not a stated plant. Rain-X makes water-repellent glass treatments and washer fluids. Its owner, ITW Global Brands, lists a Houston, Texas address, but the brand does not say where its products are made today.

From a Chicago lab to ITW

Rain-X's own history says inventor Howard Ohlhausen created one of the first invisible coatings for glass in 1971 through The Unelko Company in Chicago. The Rain-X name was trademarked and the product went on sale in 1972. Ohlhausen moved the business to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1981.

Unelko sold Rain-X to Quaker State in 1997. Quaker State merged with Houston-based Pennzoil the next year, Shell bought Pennzoil-Quaker State in 2002, and in 2011 Illinois Tool Works acquired the car care business. ITW Global Brands, at 16200 Park Row in Houston, is the name on Rain-X contact pages and safety data sheets.

What the brand says about origin

Rain-X does not state where its glass treatments, washer fluid additives or washer fluids are made. Its history page mentions past manufacturing in Cleveland, Ohio under the Blue Coral-Slick 50 division and a 2001 consolidation into Houston, but the Houston address it gives now is an office, not a named plant. None of the store listings for the Rain-X products we show state a country of origin.

If US origin matters for a purchase, check the bottle's label before buying.
