Heritage & History
Spencer Williams founded West Paw in Bozeman, Montana in 1996, drawn by the outdoor culture and the region's affinity for dogs as true working and adventure companions. The company began with a focus on durable, washable dog beds and expanded into toys as it developed proprietary materials suited to the demands of active dogs. Bozeman, nestled in the Gallatin Valley at the edge of the Rocky Mountains, shaped the brand's ethos — products built for dogs that hike, swim, and play hard.
West Paw achieved B Corporation certification, a rigorous third-party standard that measures a company's social and environmental performance. The company has pursued a zero-waste facility goal, working to eliminate landfill waste from its Montana operations. These commitments are embedded in the company's founding culture rather than retrofitted as marketing, making West Paw one of the more authentic sustainability stories in the pet industry.
Made in Bozeman, Montana
Every West Paw toy and bed is designed and manufactured in Bozeman, Montana — a distinction the company maintains deliberately in an industry where nearly all competitors have moved production overseas. West Paw's Zogoflex material, a proprietary thermoplastic elastomer, is produced to be recyclable and dishwasher-safe, and the company accepts used Zogoflex products back for recycling through its take-back program.
The Montana manufacturing base allows West Paw to oversee quality at every stage, from material selection to finished product. The Zogoflex Tux, Zisc, and classic Toppl are among the brand's most recognized toys, each made in Bozeman and backed by a guaranteed-tough promise. For dog owners who want to buy American and buy responsibly, West Paw occupies a category of its own.
