Wilson Sporting Goods has manufactured official NFL game balls in Ada, Ohio since 1941. The Ada facility produces all official NFL game balls using a process that has remained largely manual — each ball is hand-stitched and inspected by workers who have developed the tactile judgment required to evaluate leather tension, seam consistency, and inflation behavior. Wilson employs roughly 120 workers in Ada, and the most experienced hands are involved in the production of game-day balls that will be used in NFL contests.
The game ball specification requires the Wilson team to produce balls within tight dimensional and pressure tolerances while using natural leather panels that have variation in thickness and elasticity. The hand-assembly process allows workers to compensate for material variation in ways that automated production cannot easily achieve. The Ada facility produces approximately 700,000 footballs annually, of which a fraction are official game balls and the remainder are recreational and training balls.

Wilson's relationship with American football goes beyond supply contract — the company has been involved in developing football specifications in collaboration with the NFL since the 1940s. The characteristic shape, panel configuration, and lace placement of an American football reflects eight decades of joint development between Wilson and the league.
