Soap, toothpaste and lip balm are made in the US by a mix of small makers and large-company brands. Badger makes its balms and mineral sunscreens at its own plant in Gilsum, New Hampshire. Carmex is made by the Woelbing family's Carma Laboratories in Franklin, Wisconsin. Dr. Bronner's makes its castile soaps in Vista, California, and Tom's of Maine makes its toothpaste and deodorant at plants in Maine, chiefly Sanford.

Supplements are harder to pin down. Thorne makes nearly all its capsules and tablets at its own campus in Summerville, South Carolina, but its softgels come from outside manufacturers. Several supplement brands say only that they are made in the USA, without naming a plant. Ingredients are often imported even when the product is made here.
