Products Made in Maine

Maine's industry grew from its forests, rivers and coast. Bath and other coastal towns built wooden ships through the 1800s, and Bath still builds Navy ships. Paper and pulp mills ran on the Androscoggin, Kennebec and Penobscot rivers. Textile mills filled Lewiston and Biddeford, and shoe factories spread through many smaller towns in the 1900s. Wood and the outdoors still shape what Maine makes. Old Town has built canoes in Old Town since 1898. Lie-Nielsen makes hand planes and saws in Warren, Fletchers' Mill turns pepper mills in New Vineyard, and Roy Toy makes log building sets in East Machias. Puritan has made cotton swabs in Guilford since 1920. Stonewall Kitchen makes jams and sauces in York, Tom's of Maine makes toothpaste in Sanford, Xuron makes flush cutters in Saco, and Rogue Industries makes leather wallets in Standish.
