Heritage & History
Ampad, short for American Pad and Paper Company, was founded in 1888 — a name that reflects the company's foundational identity as an American manufacturer of American writing materials. For over 135 years, Ampad has converted American paper into the writing pads, legal pads, and notebooks that American workers, students, and professionals use every day.
The legal pad — yellow, lined, letter-sized, with a cardboard back — is the product most associated with Ampad, and the company supplied much of the American market through the twentieth century.
Made in the USA
Ampad writing pads and stationery are manufactured in the United States from American paper. The paper is sourced from US mills, converted into the correct weight and ruling for each pad format, cut to size, glued into pads, and packaged domestically.
Ampad's product line includes yellow legal pads (standard and narrow ruling), white writing pads, steno pads, and composition notebooks. For organizations that buy writing pads in case quantities and need American-made materials, Ampad provides 135 years of American paper product manufacturing. Yellow legal pads made in America since 1888.
