Verification Notes
Mustard produced in Springfield, MO since 1904. Website states product is made in USA. Now owned by McCormick but domestic manufacturing continues. claim-partial (mild): Brand-store listing (Manufacturer: McCormick & Company) titles the mustard 'Product of the USA'; B000Z4MHNE adds 'bottled in the USA'. McCormick FAQ: 'we manufacture our North American products in the US and Canada' (https://www.mccormick.com/pages/faq), so not every French's SKU is necessarily US-made, and mccormick.com/frenchs names no plant (websiteMadeInUsaClaim already false). Fried onions and Worcestershire listings state no origin; an old third-party 2-pack listing (B009WDG6K4, manufacturer 'ConAgra Foods') titles fried onions 'Made in the USA' but is not brand-authored. Springfield, MO rests on Wikipedia + McCormick 10-K, not a brand page; left unchanged. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WG65W4 "French’s Yellow Mustard, Classic, Stone-Ground #1 Grade Mustard Seeds, Product of the USA"

Under review. A source reports a possible change we are still confirming:
“Products contain mustard seeds sourced primarily, if not exclusively, from Canada... McCormick has failed to properly disclose the use of foreign-sourced ingredients in violation of federal labeling regulations and California law.”

American-Made Finds
One maker's story, the brands newly listed here, and a few US-made picks, every Thursday.
French's was founded in 1904 and makes the products listed here in Springfield, MO. The site lists 4 verified American-made French's products.
From a Rochester mill to the 1904 World's Fair
Brothers Robert and George French started a mill in Fairport, New York, in 1883 and moved to Rochester after it burned in 1884. George French developed a creamy yellow mustard, and the company introduced it at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair as Cream Salad Brand mustard.
The brand has changed hands several times. J. & J. Colman of England bought it in 1926, it later belonged to Reckitt Benckiser, and McCormick & Company bought French's in 2017.
One plant in Springfield, Missouri
The company chose Springfield as a plant site in 1971, and the plant was running by 1972. Manufacturing in Rochester was wound down after that. A 2018 profile of the plant says it makes French's mustard, French's Crispy Fried Onions and French's Worcestershire Sauce, along with Frank's RedHot and Cattlemen's BBQ sauce. Fried vegetable production moved there from New York in 2008.
The yellow mustard listing reads "Product of the USA," and another adds that it is bottled in the USA. The fried onion and Worcestershire listings carry no origin line.
Where the mustard seed comes from
McCormick says it makes its North American products in the US and Canada, and the French's pages do not name a plant, so check the label on any other French's product.
A California class action filed in February 2025 alleges that the mustard seeds come mostly from Canada and that the "Crafted and Bottled in Springfield, MO" label is misleading for that reason. The suit does not dispute that the mustard is made and bottled in Springfield.
