Heritage & History
Newt's started in the spring of 2000 as Newton's Novelties, an online game site, before moving into sports collectibles and then playing cards in 2001. By 2002 it had become the Playing Card Superstore and rolled out its first original deck, WILD!, with artwork by playing card artist Peter Wood. In 2002 it also began producing custom photo playing cards at its facility in Columbus, Ohio.
Its 2003 deck, Newt's Iraqi Most Wanted, sold over 25,000 copies and was added to the Ohio Historical Society. The company later added Real Souvenir historical decks, Bible playing cards and jigsaw puzzles, and in 2008 moved its operations to Circleville, Ohio.
Made in Circleville, Ohio
When the US manufacturer of its playing card trays sold and shut its doors in 2020, Newt's decided to start making its own playing card trays in house. Its Circleville, Ohio operation now produces card trays for games such as Canasta, Hand and Foot and Samba, along with wooden trump indicators, which its store lists as Made in USA.
Newt's also continues to publish its own decks, including custom photo cards that customers design online. The business is run by Jim and Christine, who describe themselves as card collectors and card players.
