Dr. Lawrence Mestyanek, who holds master's degrees in psychotherapy and educational psychology and a Ph.D. in educational psychology, started the company in 1976 because he could not find materials to train children with learning disabilities. His wife Judy, daughter Barbara Villafana, son-in-law Javier Villafana and nephew Erik Wilson now run the business with him.
