A Milwaukee cobblery for the jobbing trades
In 1892 Albert Weinbrenner opened a cobblery in Milwaukee to make shoes for people in the jobbing trades. The company says it introduced its Job-fitted idea of footwear built for specific occupations in 1917, moved into safety footwear in 1938, and switched to all-military footwear in 1942 for the rest of World War II.
Weinbrenner is now based in Merrill, Wisconsin. Wisconsin Public Radio reports it runs two factories there plus a plant in Marshfield, and the Alliance for American Manufacturing reported a new Marshfield building meant to expand welt production and add 30 to 40 jobs.
