About Ateco
Ateco has manufactured cake decorating tools and pastry equipment in Glen Cove, New York since 1905, producing the pastry tips, turntables, and decorating supplies used in professional bakeries and by serious home bakers worldwide.
Heritage & History
August Thomsen Corporation — Ateco — was founded in 1905 in Glen Cove, New York, making pastry and cake decorating tools for the professional bakery and confectionery trade. The company's pastry tip sets — the small metal nozzles that attach to pastry bags and create the decorative borders, rosettes, stars, and leaves on decorated cakes — became the American standard in professional bakeries and hotel kitchens.
Glen Cove is on the North Shore of Long Island, near New York City, where the concentration of hotels, restaurants, and professional bakeries created a substantial market for quality pastry equipment in the early 20th century. Ateco grew alongside the American professional baking industry. The company's pastry tips remain the reference standard — when professional pastry chefs specify a tip by number, they're using Ateco's numbering system.
Made in Glen Cove, New York
Ateco manufactures pastry decorating tools and equipment at the Glen Cove, New York facility. Pastry tip production involves stamping, rolling, and forming stainless steel into the precise tip geometries required for different decorating applications — a star tip must produce perfect points, a petal tip must create smooth, symmetrical curves, and a writing tip must extrude a clean, consistent line.
Glen Cove's Long Island location has given Ateco a century of proximity to the most demanding professional baking market in the United States. For professional pastry chefs, wedding cake decorators, and serious home bakers who want decorating tools made to professional baking standards, Ateco's New York manufacturing represents 120 years of pastry tool expertise.
