About Big Barker
Big Barker manufactures orthopedic dog beds in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania using proprietary American-made therapeutic foam that is clinically proven to reduce joint pain in large-breed dogs.
Built for Large Breeds
Big Barker was founded in 2012 with a specific focus on a problem that mainstream pet bedding ignored: large and giant breed dogs develop joint problems at much higher rates than small breeds, and conventional dog beds — whether foam, fiber-fill, or memory foam — compress and flatten quickly under the weight of a 100-pound dog.
The company developed OrthoMedic foam, a proprietary American-made formulation that retains 90% of its original shape after 10 years of use under large dog weights. The foam is manufactured at the King of Prussia, Pennsylvania facility, not sourced from off-the-shelf suppliers. The difference matters: a foam bed that loses its thickness loses its orthopedic benefit, which is precisely what most consumer pet beds do.
Clinical Validation
Big Barker commissioned a peer-reviewed clinical study at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine to test whether sleeping on an orthopedic foam bed reduced joint pain in dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The study found statistically significant reductions in pain, stiffness, and lameness scores in large dogs that slept on Big Barker beds compared to a control group — the kind of evidence that most pet product companies never bother to generate.
The study has been cited by veterinarians recommending orthopedic bedding for aging large-breed patients. The ability to point to clinical evidence rather than marketing claims reflects the product's genuine engineering and material quality — it was designed to perform a specific function and tested to confirm that it does.
