Blistex began with an ointment for cold sores and chapped lips developed by a Seattle pharmacist in the 1930s. Charles Arch incorporated Blistex Inc. in Chicago in 1947, ran the brand's first national advertising campaign in 1949, and in 1956 introduced its first lip balm in what the company calls the industry's first swivel-propelled stick.
The family-owned company expanded to Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and Latin America, and moved into its current headquarters in 1978. It has grown through acquisitions including Kank-A, Ivarest, Stridex, Odor-Eaters and Tucks, and it marked 75 years in 2022.
