About BMC Toys
BMC Toys has manufactured historically-themed plastic toy soldiers in Scranton, Pennsylvania since 1991, using vintage American toy molds to recreate classic Civil War, WWII, and Revolutionary War figure sets.
Heritage & History
BMC Toys was founded in 1991 by Bill McMaster in Scranton, Pennsylvania, beginning production of original historically-themed plastic soldier playsets. The company's breakthrough was acquiring vintage production molds from legendary American toy manufacturers including The Louis Marx & Company, Payton, and MPC — companies that defined American toy making in the mid-twentieth century.
By using these original molds, BMC preserved a manufacturing tradition that might otherwise have been lost entirely. The figures standing 2.45 inches tall in 1:32 scale are cast from the same tooling that produced classic army men sets decades ago, offering a direct connection to American toy-making heritage. The company has since developed its own original molds for new historical sets, expanding into D-Day, Iwo Jima, the Civil War, and the Revolutionary War — all produced at the same Scranton-area factory.
Made in Scranton, Pennsylvania
BMC Toys' Scranton, Pennsylvania facility has been producing plastic toy soldier figures continuously for over 30 years. The manufacturing process uses domestic polypropylene plastic, injected into metal molds under controlled pressure to produce figures with exceptional detail — poseable, well-defined, with almost no flash (the thin plastic excess that indicates lower-quality production).
The WWII D-Day Invasion of Normandy set is the flagship product: a 114-piece boxed playset including American GIs, German soldiers, British troops, Higgins boat landing craft, pillboxes, and terrain pieces. The Iwo Jima set captures the iconic flag-raising moment with historically accurate Marine and Japanese soldier figures. Civil War sets cover major battles including Appomattox and Petersburg. For parents, educators, and collectors who value American manufacturing and historical accuracy in toy soldier production, BMC's Pennsylvania-made sets represent the authentic continuation of a great American toy tradition.
