Camille Beckman is a family-run, woman-owned body-care company founded in Idaho by Susan Camille. It makes hand creams, including its signature Glycerine Hand Therapy, plus body creams, perfumes and bath products in its own factory along the Boise River.
Heritage & History
Susan Camille grew up in rural Idaho, worked odd jobs in Europe and studied art, then returned home to start a family business modeled on the close family firms she had seen in Greece. She began by drying baby's breath in a barn to make potpourri and Victorian-style floral goods. When her own hands became dry and cracked, she adapted a recipe from her Aunt Rose using vegetable glycerin, sweet almond oil and herbal extracts, and it became the company's signature product.
Glycerine Hand Therapy was officially released in 1989, and the company has since marked its 40th anniversary. Susan's child Roshan Jihan Roghani Ishaq now leads the business as second-generation CEO. The company works with small retailers and says it has turned down repeated offers to sell to large conglomerates.

Camille Beckman makes almost everything in its own factory in Idaho, set on 35 acres of wild rose bushes along the Boise River. The company says it was Idaho's first green building, with skylights, triple water filtration and water recycling, and staff still hand-tie the satin rosebuds that decorate its products.
