About Cutco
Cutco has been manufacturing high-performance kitchen cutlery in Olean, New York since 1949, backing every knife with a Forever Guarantee and producing exclusively in the United States.
Heritage & History
Cutco was established in 1949 in Olean, New York, founded on the conviction that kitchen cutlery manufactured to the highest performance standards could command a loyal market. The company developed the Double-D recessed edge, a blade geometry that maintains sharpness through repeated use and can be restored by Cutco's free sharpening service — a practical guarantee that the company has honored continuously since its founding. The Forever Guarantee, which covers repair or replacement of any Cutco product for the lifetime of the original owner, was radical when introduced and remains unusual in the cutlery industry.
Cutco markets its products through Vector Marketing, a direct sales operation that employs student representatives who demonstrate the knives in customers' homes. This sales model, while unconventional, puts the product's performance directly in front of the buyer in the environment where it will be used — the kitchen. Cutco's retention rate among customers who try the knives reflects how often the demonstration converts.
Made in Olean, New York
Cutco manufactures all of its knives, scissors, and kitchen tools in Olean, New York, a city in Cattaraugus County in the Southern Tier of New York State. The Olean facility handles the full production process — steel selection, blade stamping, grinding, edge finishing, handle attachment, and quality inspection. The company uses high-carbon stainless steel and produces the handles, in materials including thermo-resin and hardwood, at the same facility.
Olean has been home to Cutco for its entire history, and the company is among the city's most significant employers. The Olean manufacturing commitment is inseparable from the Forever Guarantee — a company that promises to repair or replace a knife indefinitely needs to control its manufacturing quality absolutely, because every poorly made knife represents a future service obligation. American manufacturing with total quality control is not a marketing choice for Cutco; it is the operational foundation that makes the guarantee possible.
