About Kona's Chips
Kona's Chips is the first pet treat manufacturer to earn the Made in USA Certification, producing USDA chicken jerky and dog treats in Modesto, California since 2007 — founded after the founder's Pomeranian survived poisoning from Chinese-made treats.
Heritage & History
Kona's Chips was founded in 2007 in Modesto, California with a backstory that resonates deeply with pet owners: founder's Pomeranian, Kona, nearly died after eating chicken jerky dog treats manufactured in China. Rather than accept that the only option was foreign-made treats with questionable safety standards, the founder built a domestic alternative — creating USDA chicken-based jerky treats produced entirely in the United States.
The company became the first manufacturer of pet treats in the country to earn official Made in USA Certification, a distinction that reflects the complete domestic nature of production, processing, and packaging. Kona's Chips retail listings carry the Made in the USA Only label, with products available in USDA chicken jerky and chicken and sweet potato jerky varieties.
Made in Modesto, California
All Kona's Chips products are produced, processed, and packaged in Modesto, California using USDA-approved chicken sourced domestically. retail listings confirm the Made in the USA Only designation across the product line, including the 16oz Chicken Jerky (ASIN B00BT1HTWG), Chicken and Sweet Potato Jerky (ASIN B00K61B1V0), Chicken Thins (ASIN B0745JSCJG), and Bits-O-Chips for small dogs (ASIN B00SDVTSRO).
The treats are slow-cooked to preserve natural flavor without artificial preservatives. The grain-free formulation reflects current understanding of canine nutrition. For pet owners who prioritize American manufacturing with verifiable safety standards — especially those who experienced the scares around foreign-manufactured pet treats — Kona's Chips represents a genuine alternative with a compelling founding story and consistent Made in USA credentials.
