About Natrol
Natrol has manufactured vitamins, supplements, and melatonin sleep aids in Chatsworth, California since 1980, becoming America's best-selling melatonin brand through consistent quality and accessible formulations.
California Supplement Manufacturing
Natrol was founded in 1980 in Chatsworth, California, in the San Fernando Valley region that has been a hub of supplement manufacturing for decades. The company built its business on delivering consistent, reliable supplement formulations at accessible price points — a positioning that distinguished it from premium supplement brands and from the lowest-cost mass-market alternatives.
The Chatsworth facility has undergone decades of manufacturing refinement, developing expertise in tablet, capsule, and gummy formulations. When melatonin sleep supplements emerged as a consumer category in the 1990s, Natrol was positioned to scale production and develop the variety of delivery systems — time-release, fast-dissolve, and gummy — that made their sleep supplement line dominant.
America's Number One Melatonin Brand
Natrol's melatonin products have achieved the market leadership position in a highly competitive category. The distinction lies in product breadth: time-release formulas for sustained overnight support, fast-dissolve tablets that require no water, and gummies that appeal to consumers who dislike swallowing pills.
The time-release technology is a genuine technical differentiator. Standard melatonin releases immediately after ingestion and clears the bloodstream within a few hours. Natrol's time-release formulation uses a matrix that controls dissolution rate, extending release over eight hours to support sleep throughout the night rather than just sleep onset. Developing and manufacturing this technology reliably at scale is not trivial — it's a reason Natrol's time-release format has remained a category benchmark.
