H. David Dalquist and his wife Dotty founded Nordic Ware in Minneapolis in 1946, initially making Scandinavian-inspired kitchen products to serve Minnesota's large immigrant community. One of their first major products was the Bundt pan, introduced in 1950 at the request of the Minneapolis Hadassah chapter, whose members wanted to recreate a traditional European ring cake. The Bundt pan's cultural moment came in 1966, when a Bundt cake won second place at the Pillsbury Bake-Off. Orders flooded in almost overnight, and the pan has since sold more than 70 million units worldwide — a number that represents tens of millions of family recipes built around a pan made in Minneapolis.
