Nordic Ware says it makes "the majority" of its products in its Minneapolis factory, more than 400 items in all, from Bundt pans and Naturals sheet pans to cookware, microwave products and grillware. The raw metal is not US-mined. CEO David Dalquist told a Minneapolis TV station that the aluminum arrives from Canada as coils and is processed at a plant in Wisconsin before the company forms it. A 2025 class action argues that this makes the "Made in the USA" label misleading, and a federal judge let the case proceed. Nordic Ware's position is that the substantial transformation of the aluminum and all of its manufacturing happen in the US.
A $500 start and a fluted cake pan
Dave and Dotty Dalquist founded Nordic Ware in Minneapolis in 1946 with $500, starting with Scandinavian pans such as a krumkake iron in 1948. In the early 1950s Dave designed and trademarked the Bundt pan, a cast aluminum fluted tube pan.
The pan took off in 1966, when a Tunnel of Fudge cake baked in a Bundt placed second at the Pillsbury Bake-Off and set off national demand. In the 1980s the company moved into microwave cookware and developed the first microwave oven turntable. It is still owned and run by the Dalquist family.
