About Peavey
Peavey Electronics has manufactured amplifiers, microphones, and professional audio equipment in Meridian, Mississippi since 1965, building one of the most enduring American musical instrument companies from a single founder's workshop.
Heritage & History
Hartley Peavey founded Peavey Electronics in Meridian, Mississippi in 1965 when he was 18 years old, building his first guitar amplifiers in his parents' garage because he couldn't afford the professional models he wanted to play through. He was convinced he could build better amplifiers than what was available, and the trajectory of the company proved him right.
Peavey grew from a one-man operation into one of the largest American musical instrument and sound equipment manufacturers by the 1980s. The Meridian facility expanded repeatedly as the product line grew to encompass guitar and bass amplifiers, mixing consoles, professional PA speakers, microphones, and electric guitars. At its peak, Peavey employed over 2,000 workers in Mississippi and shipped products to musicians worldwide.
Made in Meridian, Mississippi
Peavey has maintained manufacturing in Meridian, Mississippi throughout its history. The Meridian facility produces the company's amplifiers and professional audio equipment — the same Mississippi address where Hartley Peavey built the first amplifier six decades ago. For a region not typically associated with precision electronics manufacturing, Meridian developed genuine expertise in amplifier construction through Peavey's investment in workforce development.
The engineering philosophy at Peavey has always emphasized durability over aesthetics. Peavey amps are known for steel chassis construction, heavy-gauge transformers, and components specified for long service life. A Peavey Bandit or Mace amplifier from the 1980s is frequently still in service today — a testament to the rugged manufacturing standards the Meridian facility maintained.
