SallyeAnder began in 1982 when Gary Austin, inspired by a childhood neighbor and mentor nicknamed 'SallyeAnder', set out to ease his son Aaron's eczema with handmade soap. He made the first bars in the family kitchen in Minetto, New York, and his wife Karen, an artist, sold them at home parties and farmer's markets until shops began asking to carry them.
As friends and family brought their own skin problems, Gary kept developing new products in the garage, and soap-making became the family's livelihood. Today his daughter Sallie runs the company as its second-generation owner and operator. The line now includes essential soaps, shampoo bars, creams and balms, the No-Bite-Me bug repellent and Hogwash natural stain remover.

SallyeAnder products are handmade in New York, and the company's headquarters sit in Beacon in the Hudson Valley. Orders ship from the company's workshop, and its soaps are made by the traditional saponification process, which leaves the naturally occurring glycerin in the bar.
