About Schiit Audio
Schiit Audio designs and builds headphone amplifiers and digital-to-analog converters in the United States — manufactured in California and Texas — bringing no-excuses audio engineering to accessible price points since 2010.
Founded on Affordable Excellence
Jason Stoddard and Mike Moffat founded Schiit Audio in 2010 with an explicit mission: design and build high-quality audio components in the United States at prices that don't require audiophile income. Moffat had spent decades at Theta Digital designing high-end DACs; Stoddard had a background in marketing and production. The combination produced a company that combined genuine engineering depth with a direct-to-consumer model that eliminated retail markup.
The company name — chosen deliberately for its phonetic double meaning — signals the brand's character: technically serious but irreverent about audiophile pretension. Schiit's product names (Magni, Modi, Bifrost, Gungnir) continue the Norse mythology theme while product descriptions lead with measured specifications rather than vague audiophile language.
Manufactured in California and Texas
Schiit products are designed at their Newhall, California headquarters, with chassis manufactured in California, PCBs produced in Nevada, and final assembly completed at the Corpus Christi, Texas facility. In 2022, Schiit expanded manufacturing to Texas, adding more than 20,000 square feet of production space in two Corpus Christi facilities. The Texas expansion increased production capacity while maintaining the domestic manufacturing commitment that defines the brand.
The Magni headphone amplifier and Modi DAC are Schiit's gateway products — desktop components designed to connect a computer or phone to quality headphones. The Magni provides the power that headphones need to perform at their best; the Modi converts digital audio files to analog signals. Together they form a desktop listening system that outperforms integrated computer audio at a fraction of the cost of separates from traditional audio brands.
