About Scott's Liquid Gold
Scott's Liquid Gold has manufactured wood care and household cleaning products in Denver, Colorado since 1954, including their iconic Wood Care formula that has been a staple of American home maintenance for seven decades.
Heritage & History
Scott's Liquid Gold was founded in 1954 in Denver, Colorado, with a wood care formula that became one of the most widely recognized American household product names for decades. The company's flagship Wood Care product — a combination cleaner and conditioner for wood furniture, floors, and cabinets — earned its reputation through consistent performance across the postwar decades when American families furnished their growing homes with wood furniture that required maintenance.
The Denver company expanded its product line over the decades into a broader household cleaning range while maintaining the original Wood Care formula that established its name. The brand experienced business changes over the years but returned to its Colorado manufacturing roots, continuing to produce its products domestically in the Denver metro area. For consumers who grew up watching parents use Scott's Liquid Gold on furniture, the brand carries a specific nostalgic credibility that reflects seventy years of American households.
Made in Denver, Colorado
Scott's Liquid Gold operates from Denver, Colorado, where the wood care and household product line is manufactured. The Wood Care formula uses a blend of mineral oil and conditioning agents that clean surface grime while penetrating wood fibers to prevent drying, cracking, and the gray dullness that affects unprotected wood furniture. The formula is applied with a cloth, buffed, and leaves no sticky residue — a characteristic that distinguished it from wax-based competitors that required more intensive buffing.
The product line has expanded to include cabinet and furniture care specifically formulated for finished wood surfaces, and floor care products for hardwood and laminate. The Denver manufacturing keeps production in the Rocky Mountain West where the brand has been manufactured for seven decades, maintaining the regional identity that has characterized Scott's Liquid Gold since its 1954 founding.
