About Tellason

Tellason makes premium selvedge denim jeans in San Francisco, California using Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim — arguably the most prestigious domestic denim fabric — cut and sewn at their San Francisco facility.

Heritage & History

Tony Patella and Pete Searson founded Tellason in San Francisco in 2008 with a single objective: make the best jeans they could from the best domestic denim available. They chose Cone Mills' White Oak plant in Greensboro, North Carolina as their fabric source — at the time, one of the last operating selvedge denim looms in the United States — and built a product around that fabric rather than the other way around.

The timing was fortuitous. The domestic denim revival of the late 2000s brought new attention to American-made jeans, and Tellason's combination of San Francisco manufacturing and White Oak fabric positioned them at the intersection of two powerful authenticity markers. The brand became a reference point in premium denim circles for buyers who wanted demonstrably American jeans.

Made in San Francisco, California

Tellason cuts and sews its jeans in San Francisco using Cone Mills selvedge denim, a fabric woven on vintage shuttle looms that produces the tightly woven, narrow fabric with a self-finished edge that gives selvedge denim its name and its reputation for longevity. The selvedge edge is visible on the outseam when the cuff is rolled — a hallmark that serious denim buyers look for.

San Francisco has a long garment industry history, and Tellason's presence there connects the brand to that heritage while updating it for a contemporary audience. Their fits — based on classic American workwear proportions rather than European fashion shapes — are designed to age and fade in the natural patterns that come from real wear rather than factory distressing.
