About Tide

Heritage & History

Tide is the laundry detergent brand of Procter & Gamble, the Cincinnati consumer-goods company. P&G's product-supply stories describe Tide as a product families have trusted for generations. One Alexandria employee looks back on 38 years of helping make it.

The brand now covers liquids, powders and Tide PODS, along with Free & Gentle formulas and Tide evo laundry tiles. Tide has focused on cold-water washing, which it promotes as a way for households to save energy.

Made in Lima, Ohio, and Alexandria, Louisiana

Tide names two of its manufacturing plants. The Lima, Ohio plant is certified as a Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill site, meaning all materials received for manufacturing either become part of finished products or are reused, and in 2015 it recycled 1,185 tons of material. The Alexandria, Louisiana plant conserved more than 40 million gallons of water and 24 million kWh of electricity in a year.

P&G features the Alexandria plant in its Product Supply stories. Workers there describe round-the-clock operations, continuous improvement and the pride of seeing Tide products they helped make on store shelves.
