About WeatherTech
WeatherTech designs and manufactures its precision-fit automotive accessories in Bolingbrook, Illinois, investing heavily in American manufacturing equipment and employing hundreds of workers in the Chicago suburbs.
Is WeatherTech Made in the USA?
Yes. WeatherTech manufactures all of its automotive floor liners, cargo liners, mud flaps, sun shades, and protective accessories at its manufacturing facility in Bolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The company operates one of the largest automotive mat and liner production facilities in North America, employing over 1,000 workers in the Bolingbrook campus. This is not partial manufacturing or assembly — WeatherTech designs, engineers, injects, thermoforms, and packages its products domestically, controlling the entire supply chain from material sourcing through final packaging.
The Story Behind the Brand
David MacNeil founded WeatherTech in 1989 with a focus on high-quality floor liners and cargo liners for vehicles — products he felt were underserved by the low-cost, generic alternatives then available. MacNeil's approach was to use precision laser measurement of vehicle interiors to create custom-fit products that covered every inch of the floor, unlike universal-fit alternatives.
The company is perhaps best known among advertising watchers for its Super Bowl commercials, which have consistently emphasized American manufacturing and the Bolingbrook factory workforce. Those ads are not just marketing — they reflect a genuine commitment that WeatherTech has backed with hundreds of millions of dollars in domestic manufacturing investment. While other automotive accessory brands have moved production to Asia, WeatherTech has continued investing in American manufacturing capacity even as labor costs rise and global supply chains tempt cheaper alternatives.
