The family has grown from a dairy-farming background and a few thousand taps collected the old-fashioned way with buckets and horses to a modern network of vacuum tubing and reverse osmosis equipment.
The operation has conserved more than half of its 4,800 acres of maple forest with the Vermont Land Trust, installed solar panels to power its sugarhouses, and received organic certification with Vermont Organic Farmers in 2003. In 2020 the family introduced Maple to Go!, a TSA-compliant reclosable pouch for travelers.
