About Branon Family Maple Orchards
Branon Family Maple Orchards is a sixth-generation family maple syrup producer in Fairfield, Vermont, certified organic and tapping about 90,000 trees across 4,800 acres.
Heritage & History
For the Branon family, producing pure Vermont maple syrup has been a way of life for six generations. Tom and Cecile Branon head the operation today in the Green Mountains of Fairfield, Vermont, hand-tapping about 90,000 maple trees each year with the help of family and friends, and keeping a sample from every batch for quality control. The family has grown from a dairy-farming background and a few thousand taps collected the old-fashioned way with buckets and horses to a modern network of vacuum tubing and reverse osmosis equipment.
The operation has conserved more than half of its 4,800 acres of maple forest with the Vermont Land Trust, installed solar panels to power its sugarhouses, and received organic certification with Vermont Organic Farmers in 2003. In 2020 the family introduced Maple to Go!, a TSA-compliant reclosable pouch for travelers.
Made in Fairfield, Vermont
All Branon Family Maple Orchards products — organic maple syrup, maple cream, maple sugar, maple vinegar, maple candy, and maple jelly — are made at the family's sugarhouse in Fairfield, Vermont. The current sugarhouse, built in 2014, is over 10,000 square feet and houses two oil-fired evaporators along with reverse osmosis machines that concentrate sap before boiling.
As a single-sourced maple production facility, the company states it tracks precisely where its sap comes from across its 4,800 conserved acres, and the sugarhouse is VMSMA-certified and recognized as a Bird Friendly Sugarbush by the Vermont Audubon Society.
