Heritage & History
resqme, Inc. was founded by Laurent Colasse, a Frenchman who moved to the United States more than thirty years ago. The company started out distributing safety hammers, then developed a compact alternative: the resqme keychain car escape tool, first designed for first responders dealing with rollovers, entrapments and crashes. The company says it has been 'Supplying Safety Since 1998.'
The resqme has since become a consumer safety device. The company reports more than 15 million units sold and says the tool has been credited with saving a life every 15 days on average. In 2024 resqme, Inc. took over the Whistles for Life survival whistle from its founder, search-and-rescue specialist Bob Cameron.
Made in California
According to the company, the resqme car escape tool is designed, assembled and manufactured in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California. resqme calls it the only keychain-sized 2-in-1 seatbelt cutter and window breaker made in the United States.
The company says it continues 'to produce all our safety tools on American soil.' The Whistles for Life whistles are made in the U.S. by veterans and individuals with disabilities, and resqme says its products meet Buy American requirements for government and public-safety buyers.
