SwaddleDesigns was founded in 2002 in Tukwila, Washington by Lynette Damir, a mother who wanted to recreate the hospital-style swaddle blanket at home. The classic receiving blanket used in hospital nurseries was made of a specific cotton flannel — soft, breathable, and large enough to properly swaddle a newborn — but comparable blankets for home use didn't exist on the market.

Damir designed the ReceivHer blanket to fill that gap: a 42-inch square of brushed cotton flannel, large enough for proper swaddling technique, made in the USA to the same quality standards as medical linen. SwaddleDesigns has since expanded to include muslin swaddles, stroller blankets, sleep sacks, and newborn gift sets — all made in Washington state.

All SwaddleDesigns products are manufactured at their facility in Tukwila, Washington, just south of Seattle.
