From burlap bags to flags
The company began in 1882 as a family-owned burlap bag business. By the 1910s it was selling World War I surplus, including US flags, and it began making its own flags in the 1920s. During the Depression it opened its first flag factory in Spring City, Pennsylvania under the Valley Forge Flag name.
The company says it supplied flags for President Kennedy's funeral procession and the flag flown on the Apollo moon missions.

Valley Forge's manufacturing page names five South Carolina plants, in Smoaks, Kingstree, Lane, Moncks Corner and Olanta, plus a location in Pennsylvania. Since 1998 its Southern Impressions plant in Olanta has dyed, printed and finished flag fabric, including military, state and custom flags.
