The board is 17 by 13 inches, end grain, with four rubber feet fitted underneath. End grain puts the ends of the wood fibres face up, so a knife edge slips between them instead of cutting across them. Hard maple rates about 1,450 lbf on the Janka scale. The board is glued with food-safe adhesive, flattened and conditioned with mineral oil, with no varnish on the cutting surface.
Two founders and a five-year warranty
James Taylor and Jeff Deveau met while living in Asia. Jeff designed the board and works with the Oregon shop on production and shipping. James runs the website and writes the brand's guides on wood species and board care. Every board carries a five-year warranty.
