About DecoArt

DecoArt has manufactured acrylic paints and specialty finishes in Stanford, Kentucky since 1985, growing from a 64-color craft line into one of the world's largest producers of water-based paints sold across more than 75 countries.

Heritage & History

Stan Clifford founded DecoArt in 1985 in Stanford, Kentucky, building on his experience at Ceramichrome, Inc. — a ceramic glaze manufacturer where acrylic paints developed for ceramic bisque had proven noticeably superior to anything else on the craft market. Clifford launched DecoArt with an initial line of 64 acrylic colors formulated for decorative painters and crafters. The flagship Americana Acrylics line became the most trusted acrylic paint brand among art educators in the United States.

Over 36 years, Clifford built DecoArt from a regional specialty manufacturer into a global brand with more than 30 product lines and upward of 3,000 products reaching retail shelves in over 75 countries. In January 2021, pandemic-era demand pushed sales up more than 300%, and the company announced a $2 million expansion to double manufacturing capacity. Later that year, Clifford sold a majority stake to MPE Partners, with Jonathan Kane becoming CEO. In 2024, DecoArt launched DecoEARTH, the craft industry's first acrylic paint made with 70% reclaimed and recycled material.
