About Helmet Flair

Helmet Flair was started by Shaun and Jessica Maple, with development beginning in December 2019. It makes magnetic, interchangeable cat ears, horns and other helmet add-ons for bicycle, motorcycle, skate and snow helmets, produced by a manufacturing partner near Dayton, Ohio.

Heritage & History

Helmet Flair grew out of founder Shaun Maple's lifelong cycling habit and his ten years working with kids in outdoor education and classrooms. After running an IT support company for eight years, he spent three years sailing a 40-foot sailboat while weighing his next venture, and development of Helmet Flair began in December 2019.

Jessica Maple, who spent 15 years running the Mountain Sun brewery in Boulder, Colorado, handles operations and marketing. The company's lines include MagNeatOhz magnetic helmet ears, Softeez, cat ears and horns, sold for moto, bicycle, skate and snow helmets, with a stated focus on combining safety and play.

Made in Ohio

Helmet Flair says that while designing and prototyping its product in 2020 it chose between a domestic manufacturer and an overseas partner, and went with a manufacturing partner in Ohio, just outside of Dayton. The company says it is pleased with that decision and labels its products made in the USA.

The helmet accessories are made by that Ohio partner rather than in a company-owned plant; Helmet Flair handles design and sells direct from its site, pointing international customers to Amazon.
