As the sporting goods industry globalized in the 1970s and 1980s, every other major glove manufacturer moved production to Asia to reduce labor costs. Nokona did not. The decision to remain in Nocona was not economically frictionless, but it preserved something that cannot be replicated offshore: a factory full of artisans with decades of glove-making experience, producing a product whose quality depends entirely on hand skill. Today Nokona's status as the last American-made major glove manufacturer is a genuine competitive distinction.
Handcrafted in Nocona, Texas
Every Nokona glove is cut, stitched, shaped, and laced by hand at the Nocona, Texas factory. The production process requires skilled artisans at multiple stages — pattern cutting from American steer hide, individual piece stitching on industrial sewing machines, hand-shaping the pocket and finger stalls, and hand-lacing the glove together with rawhide. A single glove passes through dozens of skilled hands from raw leather to finished product. Nokona uses American leather — primarily top-grain American steer hide and the company's proprietary Stampede Steer hide — selected and processed for the flexibility and durability that baseball gloves demand.
