About Princeton Tec
Princeton Tec has manufactured headlamps and dive lights in Trenton, New Jersey since 1975, assembling its LED lighting products at the New Jersey facility and supplying the US military and outdoor adventurers with American-made illumination tools.
Heritage & History
Princeton Tec was founded in 1975 in Trenton, New Jersey, originally focused on producing dive lights for underwater use where reliability is not optional — a flooded light at depth is a genuine safety emergency. The company's engineering approach was shaped from the beginning by that unforgiving application: Princeton Tec lights had to work the first time, every time, under water pressure and in the hands of users who depended on them. That quality standard carried into the headlamp line the company developed as LED technology matured and outdoor recreation expanded.
Princeton Tec adopted LED technology early, recognizing that solid-state lighting's durability, efficiency, and output-to-size ratio were ideal for headlamps and dive lights. The company's New Jersey engineering team developed headlamp platforms that balanced output, battery life, weight, and water resistance in configurations from ultralight running lights to high-output mountaineering headlamps. Princeton Tec lights became standard issue for various US military units, validation that reinforced the brand's reputation in the broader outdoor market.
Assembled in Trenton, New Jersey
Princeton Tec assembles its headlamps and lighting products at its facility in Trenton, New Jersey, maintaining American manufacturing through five decades in the business. The Trenton operation handles circuit board assembly, LED integration, housing assembly, quality testing, and packaging for the full product line. New Jersey's manufacturing infrastructure and proximity to the northeastern US population center support both production and distribution from the Trenton facility.
The company's military supply contracts require products to meet US military specifications for shock resistance, water resistance, and operational reliability — standards that Princeton Tec engineers and assembles to in Trenton. The combination of military contract compliance and outdoor market performance has shaped a product line that prioritizes function over fashion in ways that resonate with serious users. Princeton Tec's four-decade presence in Trenton represents a commitment to American manufacturing in a product category where offshore production has become the default for most competitors.
