About US Games Systems
U.S. Games Systems has published tarot cards, oracle decks, and specialty playing cards in Stamford, Connecticut since 1968, becoming the largest publisher of tarot decks in North America and the definitive source for serious practitioners.
America's Premier Tarot Publisher
U.S. Games Systems was founded in 1968 in Stamford, Connecticut by Stuart Kaplan, who discovered the Rider-Waite tarot deck while attending a toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany and recognized its potential for the American market. Kaplan licensed the deck, published it through U.S. Games Systems, and built a company that would eventually publish hundreds of distinct tarot and oracle decks — more than any other publisher in the world.
The Rider-Waite deck, first published in England in 1910, is the reference deck against which virtually every modern tarot deck is compared. Its illustrated pip cards — the numbered suit cards — replaced the abstract dot-and-suit designs of earlier decks with narrative scene illustrations that made intuitive interpretation possible without memorization. U.S. Games Systems' publication of the Rider-Waite made it accessible to American audiences and established Stamford as the center of the American tarot publishing industry.
The Tarot Publishing Catalog
The U.S. Games Systems catalog spans classical historical decks — the Rider-Waite, the Morgan-Greer, the Marseilles tradition — and contemporary artistic interpretations by American and international illustrators. The Illuminati Tarot, with its multicultural symbolic system, represents the company's embrace of contemporary tarot art that interprets traditional symbolism through modern visual language.
Each deck is produced to the print and card quality standards that collectors and working practitioners require: calibrated card weights that shuffle well and hold up to daily handling, printing tolerances that maintain color accuracy across the full deck, and card dimensions that fit standard tarot card holders and bags. Stamford quality control ensures consistency between decks in a single edition.
