Products Made in Kentucky

Kentucky's industry grew from its farms, forests and rivers. Distillers in central Kentucky and along the Ohio River were making whiskey by the early 1800s, and bourbon became the state's signature product. Louisville grew as a river port with tobacco warehouses, foundries and woodworking shops. Coal mining dominated the eastern mountains through the 1900s, and car and truck assembly came to Louisville and Georgetown. Louisville Slugger bats are still turned in Louisville by Hillerich and Bradsby. The United States Playing Card Company prints Bicycle and Bee cards in Erlanger, outside Cincinnati. DecoArt makes Americana acrylics in Stanford, Wald has made bicycle baskets in Maysville since 1924, and Unicomp builds buckling spring keyboards in Lexington. Post-it Notes are made in Cynthiana, American Plastic Toys molds play kitchens and slides in Kentucky, and Crayon Rocks makes soy crayons in Hestand.
