DeLong Lures traces its roots to 1946, when Akron, Ohio tinkerer David DeLong poured his first six-inch, three-hook KILR Worm in his home basement. The company grew into one of the earliest soft-plastic fishing lure makers in the United States, relocating to Cleveland and then Centerville, Ohio, where it introduced scented lures, patented weedless hook systems (U.S. Patent 3,221,437), and oversized soft plastics featured in Field & Stream, Sports Afield, and Bassmaster through the 1960s-80s.
After changing hands several times and shutting down in 2012, DeLong Lures was purchased in early 2021 by Stephen Ziegler and Aaron Futrell, two anglers who had grown up fishing the brand's baits. They brought DeLong back to northeast Ohio, where it originally started, reviving the original KILR worms, the Giant Witch, and the 16-inch Snake using the company's historic mold library.
