American-Made Finds
One maker's story, the brands newly listed here, and a few US-made picks, every Thursday.
Simple Green was founded in 1975 and makes the products listed here in Huntington Beach, CA. The site lists 15 verified American-made Simple Green products.
A safer degreaser after a fatal accident
Bruce FaBrizio developed the first Simple Green formula in the 1970s. The company says he did it after he "witnessed a fatal chemical accident while working alongside his father," and set out to make a biodegradable cleaner that was safer for people and animals. After his father died in 1979, he renamed the business Sunshine Makers, Inc. It is still headquartered in Huntington Beach, California.
The range has grown from the original concentrate to the Industrial Cleaner and Degreaser, Crystal Industrial, Pro HD and Extreme Aircraft and Equipment Cleaner.
How the origin claim reads
Sunshine Makers describes itself as the manufacturer of the Simple Green line and refers to "Simple Green's tradition of providing USA-made goods." It does not name a plant. One Simple Green store listing states "Manufactured in United States," and none of the listings for the products here shows a foreign origin.
Simple Green also runs sites for Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia, and products sold in those markets may be made elsewhere. The claim above covers the bottles and jugs sold in the US. If you buy a pack sold for another market, check its label.
